OVERVIEW OF YEAR 3 Dojo s to encourage and reward good behaviour choices. Dojo winner each day-Pick a prize House points to encourage and reward good behaviour choices. Hand writing superstar ticks everyday-to encourage and reward 3 ticks = a handwriting prize Go for gold stickers Celebration certificates and celebrate achievements outside of school

WRITING Talk for Writing Autumn -Recount (Summer holidays) - Here we are (transition) - Poetry - Persuasive writing - Non-chronological writing - Stories

WRITING Spellings-Daily spelling sessions Weekly spellings (sent home-spelling patterns and common exception words) Embedded within all lessons Grammar-Sessions throughout the week Embedded within all lessons Handwriting-Daily sessions/ patterns and joins Embedded within all lessons Edit and proof reading-taught during lessons

READING Phonics, fluency and comprehension Vocabulary Common exception words-(Recap Year 2) set words Year 3 and Year 4 list (read and spell) Comprehension (questioning)-identify and retrieve, describe, prediction, inference, explain, experience, evaluate Quality texts/classics Enjoyment and a love for reading!

REMINDERS Water bottle every day Book bag every day Homework Spellings, maths missions and reading books. PE Kit Kept in school for the half term (Tuesday) All clothes/bags to be clearly named. Home reader changed weekly Library books-changed weekly Woodland Adventure-Autumn 2 (Tuesday)

HELPING YOUR CHILD AT HOME Reading with your child as often as you can. Epic login (reading)-fluency and comprehension Encouraging your child to talk about what they are learning at school. Encourage your child to write-anything! Praise but encourage your child to edit and proof read. Spellings and maths missions/Time tables rock stars Story maps and texts-read, retell, ask questions. Your role is crucial and really appreciated. So keep up the hard work!

DIGITAL LITERACY / E-SAFETY We will continue to take an active approach to educating your children on how to be safe online at school and at home. These two sites we particularly recommend to support your children at home: www.net-aware.org.uk - A guide to the popular websites/apps that children are using. Gives suggested age groups and feedback from parents/children on these apps/ websites so you can choose if appropriate. www.internetmatters.org - Specific help on how to set up internet controls at home. Guidance and articles for parents about keeping children safe online.
