Altamont Gardens
Altamont Gardens are an enchanting blend of formal and informal gardens with
lovely lawns, floral beds and beautiful woodland going down to the River
Slaney.
Oak Forest Park
Oak Park Forest Park consists of colour-coded circular walkways of varying
lengths with excellent surfaces and easy gradients make a visit here an
enjoyable experience for young and old alike. The park is a mature, mixed
woodland of over 120 acres with Beech, Oak, Scots Pine, Silver Fir, Larch and
Sycamore
Huntington Gardens
Plantings resulted in Huntington gaining a number of Champion trees including
more than ten National Champions.
The gardens also feature early water features such as stew ponds and an
ornamental lake as well as plenty to see in the greenhouse and lots of unusual
and exotic plants and shrubs.

Kilbrannish Forest
Kilbrannish Forest Recreation Area offers many walks on forest roads, two of
which are national looped walks. The South Leinster Way also has part of its
route in this forest.
Walks in Kilbrannish Forest offer magnificent views of the surrounding
lowlands, all the way to Mount Leinster on a good day. There is a picnic site
and a car park
The Barrow Way
The Barrow Way follows the towpath, paths and tracks along the River
Barrow. It is 114km long and stretches from Lowtown, County Kildare to the
beautiful village of St Mullins in south County Carlow. Just remember we have
to stay in our own county until restrictions lift.
Browneshill Dolmen
Browneshill Dolmen, a granite portal dolmen, is located to the east of Carlow
town dating back to pre-historic times. It is said to be the largest dolmen in
Europe and is estimated to weigh up to 150 tonnes. There is a carpark and
fenced walk way.
 Slí na Sláinte Walks
Slí na Sláinte walks include ones in Ballymurphy, Clonegal, Leighlinbridge,
Rathanna, St. Mullins and Carlow Town itself

Hot Potato: F.M.S: Catching
Arrange players in a
circle. One pupil in each circle begins with the hot
potato (the ball). Players pass the ball around the
circle from one person to the next. After the potato
has made it around the circle without being dropped,
everyone takes a step backwards. Now players need to
pass the potato a further distance. Include additional
instructions such as
• ‘Cool it down’ - blow on your hands after you pass
the potato to cool them down • ‘It's burning!’ - pass
the potato faster around the circle • ‘Lunch me!’ -
perform the action of eating the potato when you
catch it. Invite players to create additional actions for
the game.

Shark Attack: F.M.S : Dodging
Set up a 'safe zone' around the perimeter of the
playing area. Invite three players to stand in the centre of the playing area, and
to play the role of the shark. The remaining players (the fish) find a space in
the safe zone. To begin the game the sharks shout “Out fishy fish, come out to
play”. Once this is called the fish must walk slowly into the playing area
towards the sharks. The fish must keep walking forward until the sharks call
“Shark Attack!”. When this is called the fish must dodge away from the sharks
and get outside the playing area to the safe zone without being tagged. Any fish
that is tagged becomes a shark.

Knock them down pinball: F.M.S: Throwing
Arrange players in groups of two. Groups line up
fifteen metres apart, either side of a line of skittle targets (bottles). Groups take turns to roll a
ball, trying to knock over a target in the middle. If a player successfully knocks over a skittle,
they can claim this skittle and bring it over to their side. Continue playing until all of the skittles
have been claimed.
