  2. Why you should vote for strike action The offer is a real terms pay cut -the current rate of Inflation is 3.2%; the pay offer just 2% We have had years of below inflation pay rises - HE Pay has fallen 21% compared to inflation in the last 10 years Our pay claim was much higher than the offer - The joint union claim was for 7.5% UNISON believes we should reject the offer and vote YES for strike action

  3. National Negotiations Union Claim was for 7.5% or 1,500, whichever is the greater. Negotiations took place between March and May 2018, followed by two dispute resolution meetings Employers unwilling to improve the 2% offer Employers imposing offer as a provocative act Only strike action can make them change their mind

  4. Other Unions UCU are balloting for strike action starting on 30 August Unite and EIS have rejected the offer. They will announce shortly whether they will ballot for strike action. GMB have accepted the offer

  5. Key Dates The ballot will start on 14 September The ballot will close on 25 October UNISON HESGE will meet on 29 October to consider the result Any action is likely to start in late November at the earliest

  6. Why you should Vote Yes for Strike Action Every vote counts. We need the strongest possible mandate to show the employers the strength of feeling about the pay cuts in HE. Under new Tory legislation, over 50% of members eligible to vote have to return their ballot for unions to lawfully take strike action. Make sure all your friends and colleagues vote YES for strike action

  7. What Next If we get a vote for strike action UNISON s HESGE is committed to an escalating programme of action Members will be notified immediately about the ballot result and the decision of the HESGE We will work with other unions, particularly UCU, to co- ordinate any action to ensure it has maximum impact
