  1. Hi, my name is Seamie Shamrock! Look out for me My Big Friendly Guide to the European Union Brexit is driving us crazy!

  2. What is the latest on Brexit? Theresa May resigned as Prime Minister of the UK because she couldn t get her deal struck with the EU accepted by the British Parliament. Boris Johnson took on the job of Prime Minister. His promise is that the UK will leave the EU by 31stOctober, no matter if there s a deal with the EU or not.

  3. The problem of the Parliament The House of Commons does not know what it wants. BUT it knows it wants a deal with the EU. They just can t agree on what should be in the deal. They certainly were against Boris Johnson s idea of a no deal , even people who were on the same side as him. So Boris came up with a plan .

  4. Proroguing the Parliament Boris Johnson decided to PROROGUE, suspend, the Parliament for 5 weeks. Leaves no time for MPs to debate Brexit. It is going to happen from 10th September to 14th October, two weeks before the UK is meant to leave the EU. Prorogation happens every Autumn. It s normal but usually for a very short period of time.

  5. So has Boris Johnson won? Not really The Parliament decided to fight back. They wanted to pass a law forbidding the UK Government from leaving the EU without a deal and forcing it to ask for an extension until 31 January 2020.

  6. The Parliament has won one very big battle but Laws can only be passed if there is a majority in favour of it. But Boris Johnson s majority was only of 1 person. As he was giving his speech explaining why his plan should be followed, one of the MPs on his side walked to the other side of the House. Really bad news for Boris! He didn t take it well and fired 21 MPs from his party.

  7. Then Boris came up with another plan Boris got fed up with the Parliament imposing to him what he should be doing. So, he decided to call for a general election He decided to set the date for 14 October. The problem? He needs 2/3 of the House of Commons to agree 2/3 of (650-11) = 426. Boris had 298 MPs. How many more does he need to get to 426? Yep and he s not getting them.

  8. What to look out for Watch RTE news. Listen out for the prorogation of Parliament Could Boris resign? Could he go to jail for breaking the law? The Parliament will come back to work on 14 October On 17 October, big European Council meeting The EU 27 need to all agree on an extension. Will they give it?
