St. Columba's Hospice Care has implemented protocols for safe visits during the COVID-19 pandemic. The protocol covers arriving at the hospice, entering wards, PPE requirements, recording visits, communication, support, LFT kits, and screening questions for visitors. All visitors are required to adhere to the protocols outlined, including wearing face coverings, providing contact details, and undergoing screening questions upon arrival.

  2. The following will be covered during this short presentation: Arriving at the Hospice Entering the wards PPE Recording of visits Rota, communications and support LFT kits & Questions

  3. The following protocol is in addition to the Operational Policy OP64 - Guidance for Delivery of Safe Hospice Services during COVID-19 Pandemic and the Complementary Therapy Policy CP09.

  4. Arriving at the Hospice On entering the hospice building with your pet, a face covering must be worn. (It is not mandatory for reception staff to wear a face covering when behind the protective screen at reception, they must however wear a face covering when moving from behind the screen at any time). We ask that everyone use the main reception entrance so that you can use alcohol hand gel on arrival and when leaving. On arrival, you will be asked to provide contact details for Test and Protect purposes either by scanning the QR code or by logging your details manually at reception. You will be asked screening questions at reception

  5. Screening questions: Do you or any member of your household/extended household have a confirmed diagnosis of Covid 19 or is anyone waiting for a test result? Have you had contact with someone with a confirmed diagnosis/who has been in been in isolation or with a suspected case in the last 14 days? Have you or any members of your household / extended household travelled internationally in the last 14 days? (If yes, confirm which country and clarify if this has been agreed as safe for travel by the government) Do you have any of: o high temperature/fever o new continuous cough o loss or alteration to taste or smell o headache o sore throat o runny nose Is there any reason why you are unable to wear a face covering or surgical mask?

  6. Entering the wards Access to Cedar or Pentland wards should always be via the main ward doors, where PPE stations are situated. All staff, volunteers and visitors entering Cedar and Pentland wards must wear a fluid resistant surgical mask (FRSM). Please change your mask at the doffing /donning station at the entrance to Cedar ward.

  7. Checking in Once you have checked in at reception and followed the procedure for entering Cedar Ward, please make your way to the Complementary Therapy Suite now on Cedar ward (next to room 11) At the start of your visit, you will be advised which rooms are suitable for visiting at the Complementary Therapy Suite or by asking one of the nursing team or ward clerks at ward reception (Lorna - Pentland Lindsay - Cedar) At the end of your visit, all visits will be logged with which rooms you have visited by emailing only the room numbers you have been in to see.

  8. PPE and donning and doffing through out your visit will vary depending on the level of contact during your visit within patient rooms and at any point during your visit on the wards. PPE should be donned in the following order: Apron FRSM (if a fresh mask is required) Eye protection Gloves PPE should be removed in an order to minimise cross contamination: Gloves Apron Eye protection FRSM

  10. Recording of Visits Once you have finished your visiting, please send an email to our new team email address therapets@stcolumbashospice.org.uk Where your session will then be recorded so the unit is aware of which rooms have been visited
