This project focuses on creating a GIS map and central database to evaluate water resource sustainability in Otter Point, Shirley, and Jordan River communities. The objectives include identifying information gaps, barriers to water sustainability, aquifer studies, and assessing the new Water Sustainability Act. Progress has been made with project proposal sign-off, budget submission to CRD, and data gathering using ArcGIS. Future milestones include interim and final reports along with project presentations.

  1. Assessment of Water Resource Sustainability in Otter Point, Shirley And Jordan River Pacific Priority Solutions (RRU Bsc. Major Project Students: Kodi Bowman, Gayle Hatchard, Vickie Ntomola And Emily Rudderham) Working With OPSRRA Board Subcommittee: Brenda Mark, Sandy Barta And Bill Dushenko

Objectives Create a GIS map and central database of wells, water licenses, watersheds, groundwater and aquifers that is compatible with the existing databases of the CRD and provincial government, which can be archived and is easily accessible to the community Identify information gaps in existing water source data, and potential barriers to water sustainability, as well as aquifer studies and areas for further research needed in addressing these information gaps Summarize and critically analyze the new Water Sustainability Act in terms of its ability to ensure the sustainability of current and future water resources in the Shirley, Otter Point, and Jordan River communities.

  3. Progress to Date Sign off of project proposal (including methodology and direction) and budget on OPSRRA submitted a grant-in-aid proposal to CRD to fund the majority of this project, with a small contribution of funds from the OPSRRA account, as well as many in-kind hours. OPSRRA attendance at Major Project Proposal presentations at RRU on March 18 (Brenda Mark and Sandy Barta) Team field reconnaissance tour of communities (including CRD) with Brenda on March 29th Team Data Gathering Continues ArcGIS map and database, identification of information gaps, reviewing past and current Water Sustainability Acts

  4. Future Milestones May 31st- Interim Report, including progress and financial report June 10th Interim Major Project Presentation August 19th Final Report August 26th- Major Project Presentation and Project Financial Report
