Having unpacked how missional leadership is shaped by prayer in Session One, Session Two aims to put region-specific, practical next steps in place. Join us for a facilitated conversation that welcomes a collaborative church approach with a heart for our communities and region, based on Matthew 28: 16 - 20. Let s get practical!
Mission Matthew 28: 16 - 20 In Session One, based on verses 16 20, we discussed the following: ~ we can trust and obey God, and acknowledge our humanness it's ok to doubt and not be sure, ~ we can acknowledge and walk in God s authority, and because of that, we can ~ go, baptize, disciple, teach and remember he is with us, always. What is God s mission? Is Matt 28: 19 God s mission too? Consider Luke 4: 18 19 and Ps 146: 5 10 and discuss what is on God s heart. Are there other texts that shape what you believe to be on God s heart? God s mission is what is on his heart for humanity and is intertwined in establishing his kingdom rule on Earth. Key themes Justice, righteousness, mercy, for all to know him, reconciliation, freedom, salvation, relationship, and love.
Mission Matthew 28: 16 - 20 Getting practical with the mission Our plans, the world s plans, or God s plans? Our timing, the world s timing, or God s timing? What does this part of the process need from you, your ministry, or your church to be soaked in prayer? Prayerful missional leadership is the goal.
Leadership Matthew 28: 16 20 In Session One we looked at how these verses direct our leadership: Vs 16 - we are trustworthy and lead like Jesus, Vs 18 we are clear on our mandate and the authority we carry (as believers and in our role) , Vs 19 we clearly articulate the vision, Vs 20 we are there for the team Consider John 5: 19, Acts 13: 22, Mark 10: 45 and Matt 20: 25 - 28. How do these verses shape the way we lead, especially as we seek to lead in a way that fulfils the mission of God as discussed?
Leadership Matthew 28: 16 20 How might these verses practically outwork in your context? In a way that is soaked in prayer? Time spent with God - Ask God what he would have you do in your leadership: For you Your ministry/team/church Regionally who can we partner with another church, NPO, or council?
Prayer Matthew 28: 16 20 Biblically speaking, to pray is to ask. It s to talk to God and includes all the wonderful facets and postures of prayer we know so well. Adoration, confession, thanksgiving, supplications, lament, petition, and intercession. Ultimately, we are to see prayer as being in relationship with God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Consider current prayer practices and rhythms that foster or facilitate prayer for mission and missional leadership. Next, consider possible new prayer practices and rhythms or tweaks to what is there already. What does that look like practically? What needs to change or be added to, that fosters prayer into the vision, mission, leadership and way things are implemented and outworked?
Putting it all together Matthew 28: 16 20 Prayerful. Missional. Leadership. Regionally. A facilitated Conversation. (Personally, corporately for the community and region and beyond)
Putting it all together Matthew 28: 16 20 A few questions, to start the conversation, where we all can contribute. Could you do missional leadership without prayer? Break it down could you do missions and could you do leadership without prayer? How well do we know our region? Our suburb, wider community, city or town. Should we even be praying for our region? Needs of the region? Strengths of the region? Who can we work alongside and pray for NPOs, other churches, community groups etc? How? Who is coordinating this? How are we encouraging the people we lead to be in prayer for others , what does our personal prayer time look like for the region? What about praying for the region at a ministry or church level? Why should we? Do we need more prayer meetings, or can we tweak and work off what is already there, in our context? Such as involving all ministry groups, (whole church engagement and ownership and not merely outsourced to a prayer team), joining with other churches, attending (or initiating) city-wide prayer gatherings etc. How vague or specific, how cautious or bold are our prayers individually and corporately? What might this reveal about our confidence, trust, and knowledge of God? Can we gather in a few weeks again to unpack this further? Is there a heart for this where key prayer contacts and elders/pastors come together? This ALL needs to be soaked in prayer.
