York University's Support for United Way Greater Toronto
York University supports United Way Greater Toronto as a local catalyst of social change, an effective community fund that targets funds where they are needed most in Toronto and York Region. York Cares Pledge Drive Friday October 26 Friday November 30 2018 Fundraising goal: $180,000 Pledges account for 95% of the funds raised by York for the United Way. Please consider a pledge donation in addition to your participation in campaign events.
2018 York Cares Campaign Priorities Awareness -raise the profile of YorkU & UWTYR mutually beneficial partnerships Participation -pledge donations to United Way or designated charity Engagement -events on campus & CN Tower Climb -volunteerism as York Cares Ambassadors
How To Give Each member of the YorkU staff and faculty community will be emailed their own personalized electronic pledge form on October 26th. Please check your email inbox to find your unique giving link.
How Much Should I Give? $126 annually/$10.50 per pay Allows six women who have experienced recent trauma to participate in a 12-week intervention and support program, helping to improve their parenting skills and reduce family stress $350 annually/$29.16 per pay Provides five nutritious meals a week for three months to a senior who is recovering from surgery $830 annually/$69.16 per pay Provides a year of language classes and employment counselling to one newcomer, preparing them for the workforce in their new country $2000 annually/$166.67 per pay Allows three children from an underserved neighbourhood to attend a homework club two days a week for one school year, improving their grades and enhancing their self-confidence

Campaign Events Overview Campaign Kick Off - Pancake Breakfast Friday October 26; 8:30-10:30am; Central Square Cafeteria This annual event is a real crowd pleaser. Get there early for hot off the grill flap-jacks! Please plan to attend and encourage your colleagues to join you. CN Tower Stair Climb Saturday November 24th6-10am; Metro Convention Centre This event serves as a great fitness goal and opportunity to show off your school spirit. The Climb is followed by a Student Rally at the Metro Convention Centre. Wear your Red & White and support the York Cares Campaign! Silent Auction Wed-Thurs November 14-15; 12-2pm; West Office Building This auction includes skills, talents and products donated by members of the YorkU community with all proceeds going towards the United Way.

CN Tower Climb Saturday November 24 6am-10am Metro Toronto Convention Centre Join York Cares-York University team and climb 1,776 steps to the top of the CN Tower and help communities rise from poverty to possibility. Registration fees: $10 for students; $20 for adults Minimum-fundraising requirements: $75 for post- secondary students; $100 for adults. As always, 100% of funds raised will go directly to United Way s ongoing work in fighting poverty across our region.
Silent Auction November 14-15; 12-2pm West Office Building The Division of Advancement will host its annual Silent Auction in support of the 2018 York Cares United Way Campaign on November 14 and 15. This silent auction is open to the entire YorkU community. You can donate and bid on exciting prizes, like guitar lessons, sporting tickets, handmade jewelry, artwork, etc. It is a great way to share hidden talents with your colleagues, while helping to raise funds for United Way. Confirm your donation by end of day November 9thby emailing yucares@yorku.ca
