  1. Role of yoga for physical and mental health Presented By Dr. Binita Devi Assistant Professor Department of Education, Khoirabari College, Assam Date : 20/11/2022

  2. Introduction Maharshi Patanjali is said to be the propounder of Yoga philosophy. It is a very scientific philosophy. We can find its references in Vedas, Upanishads, Smritis and Puranas etc. now it is propagated throughout the world. Healthy body and strong mind, both are the subjects of its study. This philosophy believes that a sound mind resides in a sound body only. Purity of mind makes the mental attitude pious. As per Yogic scriptures the practice of yoga leads to the union of individual consciousness with that of the universal consciousness, indicating a perfect harmony between the mind and body, man and nature.

  3. Importance of yoga Yoga is a way life. This is an ancient Indian science which influences the functioning of the brain and rest of the body. Yoga is a form of physical exercise that involves different body poses, breathing techniques and meditation. Regular practice of yoga may help to: Relieve stress Lower anxiety levels Decrease depression Improve sleep quality Enhance quality of life

Yoga is thought to achieve following benefits to boost physical and mental health in several ways: As an exercise, it naturally produces serotonin, sometimes called the happy chemical because it contributes to feelings of wellbeing and happiness. Serotonin in the brain is a natural mood stabilizer and has been associated with helping anxiety and stress. Regular yoga practice teaches deep focus and mindful breathing, two important elements in helping to relieve depression. Participants can better focus on the present, clear their mind and strengthen the mind-body connection.

  5. Mental endurance and physical stamina are tested through holding postures through extended breaths. This increases endurance, strength and flexibility. It helps modulate the stress response, reducing heart rate, lowering blood pressure and easing respiration. This may also help in managing pain tolerance. Yoga is only in full effect when both mind and body are completely engaged. It offers a unique opportunity to make a powerful impact on mental health.

Benefits of Yoga for Men Enhance their athletic performance through improved flexibility, internal awareness, better respiratory capacity, better circulation and motion efficiently and greater energy. Prevent injury and speed up recovery through the healing of inflamed muscles, tissue, joints, and fascia, as well as the restoring of connective tissue and increased body awareness, leading to more caution and less injury. Optimized their muscle tone via increased delivery of oxygen to the muscles. Lower their stress level through movement. Increase their mental agility through the sharpening of the mind and improved cognitive function that comes with the meditative exercise of yoga.

Lessening stress and reducing the severity and frequency of anxiety and depression symptoms. Improving women s posture.   9. Conclusion Yoga makes feel better and increases flexibility. It helps an individual to be more productive with time, gives more energy, and boosts metabolism. It also helps in focusing and become more mindful. Yoga improves the physical and health.
