  1. MHS Subject Selection Evening Year 9, 2024

  2. I begin this evening by acknowledging the Yaegl people, Traditional Custodians of the land on which we are gathering here tonight, and pay my respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. I extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples here this evening also. Welcome/ Welcome/ Acknowledgement of Acknowledgement of Country Country

  3. Record of School Achievement (ROSA) Record of School Achievement (ROSA) All students that successfully complete Year 10 but do not go on and complete their HSC will receive a RoSA. A RoSA provides an ongoing, collective record of student achievement. The grades for courses completed in all of Stage 5 (Year 9 and 10) will contribute to the grade given at the end of Year 10.

  4. Students will continue to study: Subjects studied Mathematics English Science History Geography PDHPE

  5. All mandatory subjects will be automatically chosen for you. You are selecting electives for which you will be studying for both Year 9 and Year 10. Key points Key points You will need to select in preference order. Students will select 3 preferred subjects and 2 reserve subjects. Students will be offered 3 out of the 5. Please note some subjects have fees.

  6. Course Selection Considerations Course Selection Considerations By choosing elective subjects in Year 9 and 10, it is the perfect time to explore opportunities, learn more about yourself, and develop a positive work ethic.

  7. This is your opportunity to begin to study subjects that align with your strengths, interests and what may lead into future pathways for career and work. Making the Right Making the Right Choice Choice Subjects that you think will be right for you! Subject changes are possible although may be difficult due to high student numbers in classes or no availability of the desired subject on the right line.

  8. Fundamentally, you just need to Summary focus on choosing subjects that you are interested in, good at, that are meaningful to you and challenge you and we will assist you with the rest.

  9. Important Dates Subject selection portal will be open from Wednesday 2nd of August and will close Sunday 13th of August.
