General timetable for Year 3
Welcome and expectations for Year 3
Welcome to Year 3
Morning session – English (reading, writing, spelling, grammar) and Maths taught in
year group cohorts (of approx. 20 children)
Afternoon session – foundation subjects taught in class cohorts
Reading books and reading records must be in school every day and taken home each
afternoon
PE days are on a Thursday and Friday

Home learning expectations
All homework should be completed in your child’s yellow homework book,
unless otherwise stated
Homework activities should take no longer than 45 minutes and should be
completed mostly independently
Set on a

Due in on a 
Thursday
Activities include: spelling words to practise, reading, SpellingFrame, TT
Rockstars and sometimes a Maths or English task
Reading records must be handed in every Thursday, alongside homework books
Getting the most out of reading
Your child’s reading book must be in school each day and taken home each
evening
Reading records must be in school each day and taken home each evening
Year group teachers will aim to read with your child – on a 1:1 basis - at least once
per half term
All children have access to our school library
Reading aloud to your child is incredibly beneficial!
Regular reading is important to support progression
