Overview: I ve worked in this field 16 years and with WBL for almost 10 years. I m responsible for 9+ program areas and maintaining WBL compliance-audit for our department. Section 20- SBCC- State Board of Community Colleges Policy guide for WBL prefix courses Best Practices- some colleges add additional criteria to satisfy their unique local needs or requirements Membership hours FTE- Full time equivalent $
Section 20- SBCC- State Board of Community Colleges 6 Requirements to claim membership or FTE for students. 1. Transcript, Evaluation or Final Grade Report 2. Timesheet(s) (e-date) 3. WBL application 4. MLO s 5. Employer evaluation 6. Site visit
Forms-Documentation Software for documentation that we ve used and currently use: What do we need to obtain during the semester from students, employer and faculty? College H drive- store all student WBL files (paperless) Cognito Monthly or weekly timesheets (depending on your department). MLO s Employer Evaluation Site visits Jotform Docusign Google site workbook and Google forms- application, placement, approvals, visits Paper- Pdf s

Resources Department resources: Compliance- SBCC and internal audit insight and record keeping Section Modification- COD s (courses), IOR- instructors assigned to the course Registration- student registration issues (petitions, overrides) Risk Management- MOU s with employers, student insurance, potential legal matters Disability Access Services- assistance with students that need accommodations for their internship Career Services- WBL marketing, student workshops & events, resumes, cover letters, job development. Handshake- job board Single Stop- resources for students- financial, childcare, food assistance Professional Clothing Closet- assist students with interview, internship and job attire Program areas- lab fees to help student
Tips for newbies ! Keep Section 20 by your desk or the file requirements on a sticky note attached to your computer. Memorize it early! Create an EVA to reduce potential removals that are due to missing or late e-dates. Print or keep census dates handy- memorize these each semester too! MLO s- reread the policy on this. There is flexibility to use when needed. Create digital folders- loose the paper process.
More tips for newbies ! Target recruitment of students that are currently or newly employed in the field. Learn how to best assist our international students. They have an entire struggle in itself as a student. Remember that it s okay to move away from what people have done traditionally as long as you remain compliant and ethical. Don t forget that YOU work for the student.
