SANAC Womens Sector & the HIV Response South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) brings together government, civil society and the private sector for a collective response to HIV, TB and STIs in South Africa Chaired by the SA Deputy President (political leadership) SANAC Civil Society Forum (CSF) has 18 sectors Women s Sector is one Women s Sector ensures a HIV response that centres women and girls at their points of need Recognizes their diversity, conscious of their socio-economic circumstances Leaves no one behind as women living and affected by HIV

A need for choice in HIV Prevention HIV remains a threat to the lives of women and girls SSA regions still bears the burden with 2000 young women and girls being infected weekly A comprehensive approach to addressing HIV has still to be achieved BEHAVIOURAL | STRUCTURAL | BIOMEDICAL A choice of services, programmes and products is what will advance the HIV prevention agenda

The CHOICE Manifesto The CHOICE Manifesto a needed united women s collaborative in the Africa s Southern and Eastern regions Calling for continued political and financial support for HIV prevention and choice It is primarily based on biomedical HIV prevention products Based on research product tested and proven to work Oral PrEP | Dapivirine Ring | Injectable PrEP Not fully made accessible Promotes basket of HIV Prevention tools Is centred on providing choice for women and girls

Opportunities for the CHOICE Manifesto To be inclusive of other regions in Africa Advocate for a comprehensive approach BEHAVIOURAL | STRUCTURAL | BIOMEDICAL Highlight a need for biomedical to be seen in light of socio-economic context in the lives of women and girls Emphasize the rollout within the primary health care ecosystem A need for investment to strengthen community and healthcare systems (with community led monitoring and implementation) Appreciate the complex social environment across the African regions

Recommendations Redefine access and availability in the manifesto Build coordinated platforms and voices for women and girls from across various sectors, e.g. agriculture, small business and other socio-economic initiatives The CHOICE agenda in the region should unite women Centre the call on choice and a health care system that locates women and girls where they are with strong community systems
