FOCUS ON CHAPTER 251 Level of Health Departments: Level III Health Department - continued Health Officer with a Masters degree in public health, public administration or similar field and 3 years of full time experience in a Public Health agency. Bachelor s degree and 16 graduate credits toward a master s degree in public health, public administration & 5 years of experience in a full time administrative position in a public health agency. 9/28/2024

  14. CHAPTER 251 - continued Local Health Officer Qualifications Based on education, experience and level of health department. Full time employee Duties Administer local health department in accordance with statutes and rules Enforce state public health statutes and rules Enforce any regulations that the Board of Health adopts Administer all funds Appoint all necessary subordinate personnel Investigate and supervise the sanitary conditions of all premises within the jurisdictional area of the local health department. Have access to vital records. Promote the spread of information as to the causes, nature and prevention of prevalent diseases 9/28/2024

  15. CHAPTER 251 - continued Local Health Department Jurisdiction Shall extend to the entire area represented by the governing body of the county, city, village or town. Jurisdiction does not extend into cities, villages or towns that have local health departments. No part of any expense incurred by a county health department may be levied against any property within any city, village ot town that has a local health department . 9/28/2024
