  1. WORLD WAR II Sunderland Culture Toolkit for Schools

  2. LESSONS 10-12: LEARNING AIMS 1. 2. To recap all the movement phrases created. 3. To combine the movement phrases into one dance. 4. To rehearse and perform the completed dance. To recap all the key words learnt this topic.

  3. TASK 1: RECAP What do the following words mean? Phrase -A sequence of movement. Unison -Dancers perform exactly the same movement at the same time Canon - Dancers perform exactly the same movement one after another

  4. TASK 1: RECAP What do the following words mean? Question and answer -One dancer moves then another dancer responds. Motif -A movement phrase that communicates the idea to the audience. Motif and development -Ways to change the first version of the motif.

  5. TASK 2: RECAP AND COMBINE Recap the wartime social dance phrase. Recap the trenches phrases (including unison and canon). Add movement that links from the end of the social dance phrase to the start of the trenches phrase. Rehearse these two sections combined.

  6. TASK 3:COSTUME DESIGN Discuss: What sort of costume would you wear for this dance? Why?

  7. TASK 4: RECAP AND COMBINE Recap the first two sections of the dance (social dance linked to trenches phrase). Recap the battlefield duets. Add movement that links the end of the trenches phrase with the start of the duet. Recap the letter solo (both versions). Add movement that links from the end of the duets to the start of the letter phrase.

  8. TASK 5: REHEARSE Rehearse the dance from beginning to end: Social dance Trenches Battlefield duet Letter solos Discuss: what are you trying to communicate in each section?

  9. TASK 6: CRITERIA You are trying to show in your performance: Your character The story You understand unison, canon, question and answer and motif development.

  10. TASK 7: SUMMARY Name some key words you have learnt during this topic. What was your favourite part of the topic? Why? What was the most challenging part of the topic? Why?
