Rib resection is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of one or more ribs to facilitate thoracic surgery in animals. This procedure is commonly indicated for conditions like osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, and rib fractures. The surgery requires making an elliptical incision, excising the rib segment, and closing the wound meticulously. Understanding the anatomical differences in rib count among various animals is crucial for precise surgical planning and execution.
