Update on Mental Health Leads Training Programme by DfE
Department for Education (DfE) is offering grants for senior school or college staff to receive training on implementing effective mental health and wellbeing approaches. The grant covers training costs and supply staff expenses. Eligibility is on a first-come, first-serve basis, with prioritization for schools and colleges by 2025. Existing mental health leads can also benefit from this training. Training providers will be assessed against DfE quality criteria. Schools or colleges can decide who receives the training based on their specific needs and circumstances.

Mental Health Leads Training Update on DfE offer and Creative Education s programme in planning
Overview Overview The Department for Education (DfE) is offering a senior member of school or college staff the opportunity to get a grant for training to develop the knowledge and skills to implement an effective whole school or college approach to mental health and wellbeing in their setting. The grant is a contribution to the cost of training and the hiring of supply staff whilst leads are engaged in learning. Grant is approx. 1200 ( 800 training, 400 cover)
Eligibility Eligibility There are sufficient funds to offer a grant to around a third of all state schools and colleges between September 2021 and March 2022. The government has committed to offer senior mental lead training to all state schools and colleges by 2025. The grant will be given on a first come first serve basis The grant must be used on approved training to help develop or introduce your whole school or college approach to mental health and wellbeing
Which staff can get the training? Which staff can get the training? Your school or college can decide who gets the training as every setting s circumstances are different. Training could be for your: headteacher deputy headteacher member of the senior leadership team (SLT) if not a senior leader, an appropriate member of staff, working with colleagues, who is empowered to develop and oversee your setting s whole school or college approach
What about existing mental health leads? What about existing mental health leads? Existing mental health leads, or someone who has previously had mental health and wellbeing training, can still be nominated for this training. The grant must be used on training to help develop or introduce your whole school or college approach to mental health and wellbeing, and existing senior leads might wish to: develop or refresh their knowledge and skills in specific priority areas get more advanced training get a relevant qualification
Providers of Training Providers of Training All grant funded training for senior mental health leads will need to be assessed against DfE quality criteria. DfE will publish a list of all courses meeting the required quality standards, with a tool to support course selection, in September 2021. More detail direct from DfE here

Creative Educations Proposed Programme We d like you to feed into our programme; it s still under development. It will include: Training and support on all 8 of the key areas outlined by DfE Coaching circles so that you can develop alongside colleagues across 2 terms Ideas sharing sessions so you can learn from, and share, best practice A wide range of on-demand learning so you can pick a personalised learning path Ongoing access to our mental health network during and beyond the programme Train the trainer elements so you can cascade key learning to your community
Trusts and Clusters For schools/colleges wishing to work together on a more bespoke version of the programme tailored specifically to your local context or trust s priorities This is only appropriate if each individual school feels this is the best use of their funding Schools would apply in the usual way and coordinate directly with Pooky & the CE team upon successful application for funding
