Fundamental physics and the ESS Exploitation of the energy and intensity frontiers A complete Standard Model. We know there is a new energy scale is for new physics beyond the SM. We don t know what the new physics scale is Precision measurements of particle decays/interactions can exceed the mass reach of colliders. We don t know how baryogenesis happened Baryon number violation is needed and neutrons offer a unique BNV probe. We don t know why CP violation isn t yet seen in the strong sector Neutron provides a precision probe for strong CPV We don t know the nature of dark matter Neutrons are a portal to a dark sector . There is potential for a broad program of breakthrough experiments to be done at the ESS.
Organising committee David Milstead (Stockholms Universitet, co-chair) Anca Tureanu (University of Helsinki, co-chair) Gilles Ban (Caen) Zurab Berezhiani (Univ. L'Aquila and LNGS/INFN) Gustaaf Brooijmans (Columbia University) Gabriele Ferretti (Chalmers University) Mart n Gonz lez-Alonso (CERN) Yuri Kamyshkov (Tenneseee University) Valentina Santoro (European Spallation Source) Mike Snow (Indiana University) Chris Crawford (University of Kentucky) Torsten Soldner (Institut Laue Langevin) Albert Young (North Carolina State University)
No workshop fee Supported by Nordita and the Oskar Klein Centre Lunch and workshop dinner paid for by partcipants at restaurant except on Thursday when sandwiches are offered.
Workshop Aim Map out where the field stands, where we expect to be in the future, and how a particle physics program at the ESS can fit in and contribute to a range of fundamental physics questions. Focus on short-medium possibilities within remit of ESS gap analysis + cover ideas/proposed plans beyond. Proceedings ~4-5 pages per session Written by session convenors with input from speakers Supported with abstracts for all talks. Please send an abstract to the convenor of your session. Document for the arxiv to be signed by all (willing) participants.
