Unison Open Meeting Health & Safety COVID-19 RE-ENTRY TO CAMPUS 2020
Unison Branch H&S October 2020 Campus closure 20thMarch to all but none essential activities. Working from home or furlough due to Covid-19 pandemic. Challenges of working differently & effect on mental & physical health. Impact of lockdown and challenges it brings to us all.
Unison Branch H&S October 2020 Monday 11thMay the Government published 8 documents Working Safely during COVID-19 Designed to support and help employers put safe system in place. To be done in consultation with employees, stakeholders & trade unions. The University of Leeds started to explore what needed to be done. The re-entry group was set up by the university. Plans drawn up for a phased re-entry for limited occupancy on campus.

Unison Branch H&S October 2020 Unison, UCU & UNITE supplied a list of H&S reps to be involved with the re- entry work and inspections Issue of 3 documents from central H&S to assist with the re-entry works. Other documents under pin these and they are COVID-19 Building Commissioning Checklist COVID-19 Pre-Entry Inspection Checklist Guidance
Unison Branch H&S October 2020 W/c Monday 15thJune, limited number of staff returned to campus. FD scoped central teaching spaces for capacity and work need to ensure social distancing. On going work was underway for preparation for signage and other staff to return.
Unison Branch H&S October 2020 W/c Monday 22ndJune other categories of staff returned to campus instrumental in preparing the campus: Portering staff and some FD & estates staff Inspections started with full involvement of Trade Union, Project Managers, H&S Manager, Facilities Manager or Local Management Contact.
Unison Branch H&S October 2020 Unison, Unite and UCU attended around 70 Campus site visits, to undertake Safety Walkaround / Inspections. Campus Signage is in place both internally and externally. Pre-return Questionnaires are in place including induction and an opportunity to raise questions or concerns to relieve anxiety. Semester 1 underway. A time to reflect pause and plan for 2021.
Unison Branch H&S October 2020 Between now and Christmas, monitoring will take place to both refresh signage, check systems and processes work, lessons learnt. Plan for 2021. Regular weekly meetings with both HR and Director of Wellbeing Safety & Health, as part of the ongoing consultation and discussions on re-entry. Share progress through the usual branch communication channels, email, social media, blogs etc
