GOING VIRAL The concept of something Going Viral is most used when discussing Social Media but has been around for a long time. When folks see a lot of other people doing/saying/wearing something, they want to try it. It's human nature. But you have a choice. achieve.lausd.net/human-relations
GOING VIRAL Over the years, trends have gone viral even without the help of social media. It's human nature to want to participate in something that seems cool or popular. achieve.lausd.net/human-relations
Viral Social Media Challenges - Nothing New Social Media Challenges have been around as long as social media itself. Early challenges were silly in nature and included planking, flash dance mobs, and flinging cheese at babies. achieve.lausd.net/human-relations
It's human nature to want to follow trends. Have you known anyone who has participated in a Viral Social Media Challenge? DISCUSSION achieve.lausd.net/human-relations
NOT ALL FUN & GAMES More recently, there has been a rise in dangerous and potentially deadly Social Media Challenges. Young people are not the only ones who participate in these challenges but are considered more vulnerable to their detrimental effects. achieve.lausd.net/human-relations
WHY ARE YOUNG PEOPLE MORE VULNERABLE? Immaturity Young people's brains are not fully developed causing young folks to be less likely to think about the consequences of their actions. Posting for Likes Young people are more likely to crave the attention/feelings of popularity that "going viral" can provide. Invincibility Those underdeveloped brains also cause young people to tend to believe they are immune to hazards or risks. Fear of Missing Out Young people want to do what their friends are doing, and fear not being included. achieve.lausd.net/human-relations
DISCUSSION Have you ever thought that you are more vulnerable because you are young? Why or why not? achieve.lausd.net/human-relations
