Traffic Light Profiles are tools used to support children with special educational needs by setting termly targets and strategies to help them reach their potential. These profiles are created in consultation with the SENDCO and class teacher, with a focus on addressing the child's needs and tracking progress. Targets, areas of difficulty, and strategies for improvement are outlined in these profiles to provide tailored support for each child.

  2. What is a Traffic Light Profile? Traffic Light Profiles are for those children for whom we are making special educational provision, to ensure that they reach their potential. A Traffic Light Profile supports the planning of that provision. Your child s class teacher:- assesses your child s needs plans how they will teach your child to address their needs, in consultation with the SENDCO. creates individual termly targets. reviews your child s progress termly

  3. What might be in a target? Examples of targets: Child X will use 2 of the tools that she has been taught to regulate her emotions with adult support. Child Y will ask for help if he does not know what to do Child A will use the word banks provided by my teacher 4 out of 5 times

  4. What does a Traffic Light Profile look like? (front page) The front page describes general strategies that will help the child with the areas of weakness. These will probably stay the same for several terms or longer. Name: Class: Class teacher: Special Educational Needs: Create time and space for: - Notice when I try to use my phonics in my writing. Support me with my processing, I might need some time before I answer Show that you are listening to me by checking in on me. Acknowledge me if I becomes overwhelmed. I need non-verbal prompts to listen e.g. catch my eye. Explain my tasks in steps.

  5. What does a traffic light profile look like? (page 2) TARGET Child X will use 2 of the tools that she has been taught to regulate her emotions with adult support. WHAT I FIND DIFFICULT YOU CAN HELP ME BY: Teach me some different tools for regulating myself. Support me to find tools that I find useful. Remind me to use my useful tools Praise me when I try to use my tools to regulate. I often become overwhelmed and emotional if I think I might make a mistake. I can t always use my regulation tools when I need them Targets are termly and address the needs identified. They are ranked red or orange. Red targets are the most important. What I find difficult , outlines any areas that the child finds difficult, that the teacher wants to target. You can help me by , outlines the strategies and approaches that the teacher is going to use to help your child reach their target. Check in with me to see whether I have understood my learning tasks. Support my learning with a task board to break down my learning. Praise me when I ask for help. I don t always understand what I have to do I don t always ask for help when I haven t understood my learning tasks. Child Y will ask for help if he does not know what to do I struggle with my spellings I don t like correcting my spellings I don t always remember to use the word banks on my table Encourage me when I try to use ambitious words even if I don t spell them accurately. Remind me to use the word banks using non-verbal cues. Praise me when I use the word banks Notice when I am in the Green zone Praise me explicitly when things are going well well done for taking turns with the group , I really like that idea Child A will use the word banks provided by my teacher 4 out of 5 times The Green section describes what it looks like when your child is doing well and how this can be encouraged. When I am in Green zone, I am trying my best, and I remember to use my tools to regulate my emotions.

  6. How will Traffic Light Profiles be shared? You will be emailed your child s TLP by the end of today. You can discuss this profile with your child s class teacher at our drop-in next Tuesday 16thJuly. TLPs will be reviewed termly, and will be shared with you by email, they can be discussed with your child s teacher at the parents meetings that follow the email. The next review will be in October.
