Quaestio: Why do we study history? Nunc Agenda: Examine the three Casey Key Virtues below and answer the questions to the best of your ability.
Why do we study history? Is studying history important?
Save The Last Word Pick a part of the reading that you found most significant and inform your group members. Choose one person to be first. Group members have one minute to review and consider the text. Each member EXCEPT the person who picked that text has 30 seconds each to share their thoughts on the text. One voice at a time. After all three have spoken, the person who picked the text has 2 minutes to explain why they found it significant. Repeat this process three more times with the rest of the group. While others speak, be sure to listen actively by taking informal notes and preparing to respond.
Why do we study history? Is studying history important?
Old Wise Man The trope or stock character of the Old Wise Man, usually sitting atop a mountain or in some remote place, or even just the idea that wisdom comes with age, is based on the idea that more life experience will, generally, grant your more wisdom. If you study history, you can benefit from much of that past experience without having had to live through it, and basically hack the Age to Wisdom System!
Learn from the Past History is a science in which the experiments have already been conducted - they are the events of the past - and it is our job to try to understand what happened and how and why, and draw conclusions based on that data Unlike in some other sciences, these experiments cannot be repeated in the lab, so we have to work with what we ve got!
Understand Your Own Existence in the World Reality is like a TV show, and you were born into Season 10 If you want to have any idea of what is going on around you in your world, you need to go to Netflix and binge watch Seasons 1 through 9 Netflix is history, and this course is a binge watch of thousands of years of history That s why it takes two years!
Predict the Future History gives you superpowers! Sort of Learning from the past and understanding the world as it is right now can together help you to figure out what will happen next Sometimes in movies, people who can see what future are able to step in to change the course of history and save the world This is actually possible by studying history (I m not kidding) and I am hoping that you will all become superheroes in this way
