Vine s Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words DEFINITION ONE Malicious and unjustifiable feelings toward others, whether towards the innocent or mutual animosity. DEFINTION TWO A feeling of aversion from what is evil or towards error. DEFINITION THREE Relative preference of one thing over another.

  3. Hate as the Bible Presents It I. God Hates (In the last two senses). A. Even though God is love (1 John4:8). B. He hates (and opposes) evil. Idolatry (Jer. 44:2-5; Col. 3:5; 1 Cor. 10:14). Seven things (Prov. 6:16-19). C. God hated Esau (Edom) (Rom. 9:13; Mal. 1:2-5).

  4. Hate as the Bible Presents It II. We Should Hate and Oppose Evil. A. We must hate every false way (Ps. 119:104). What we believe makes a difference (2 Thess. 2:10-12). Ephesus was commended for hating evil (Rev. 2:6). B. We must hate evil (Ps. 97:10). Sin is against God (Ps. 51:4; Gen. 39:9). Sin is degrading (Luke 15; Prov. 13:15). C. If not, we do not love God (Ps. 97:10).
