UNDERSTANDING
PTSD

PTSD arises after exposure to a
shocking, scary, or life-threatening event.
Fear is a natural response during and after
trauma, activating the body’s “fight-or-
flight” mechanism. While most people
recover from initial symptoms over
time, some continue to experience
distressing effects, leading to a
diagnosis of PTSD.
