  1. 8/17 Bell Work: Write a sentence using the word capacious

  2. SSR Time Reminders about SSR: We are quiet when reading. If you do not have a book, borrow one from the shelf. You should have a book that you plan to read by FRIDAY. This is the book you will use for your first project. Students who do not have a book by FRIDAY will be assigned The Chocolate War.

  3. 8-17 Plot Structure (this will be today s title) Plot is the literary element that describes the structure of a story. It shows the causal arrangement of events and actions within a story. * Only write down what is underlined!

  4. Why do we study plot and many other elements of literature? Literature answers the question Who are we and how shall we live? Without a plot, the great novels, poems, and even movies and television would not exist. *Nothing is underlined

  5. Plot Structure Components Climax: The turning point. The most intense moment (either mentally or in action). Rising Action: the series of conflicts and crisis in the story that lead to the climax. Falling Action: all of the action which follows the Climax. Exposition: The start of the story. The way things are before the action starts. Resolution: The conclusion, the tying together of all of the threads.

  6. Review Read the story the Little Red Riding Hood and identify the five elements of plot on the worksheet. Only turn in the worksheet. Advanced ELA homework: Analyze a recent movie you have seen and identify the plot elements. Do not forget the title!

  7. Homework Complete your worksheet if you have not turned it in. Decide what your SSR book will be if you have not already done so. Have a great day!
