Percent Solutions Practical General chemistry M.S.c. Shilan Farhad Lab. 5 ( 1ststage)
Percent Solutions What are three ways to express the percent concentration of a solution? The concentration of a solution in percent can be expressed in three ways: as the ratio of the volume of the solute to the volume of the solution or as the ratio of the mass of the solute to the mass of the solution or as the ratio of the mass of the solute to the volume of the solution.
Concentration in Percent (weight /Volume) Weight of solute ( g ) Volume of solution ( ml )*1 Percentage Weight In Volume =
Isopropyl alcohol (2-propanol) is sold as a 91% solution. This solution consist of 91 mL of isopropyl alcohol mixed with enough water to make 100 mL of solution.
QUESTION SOLVING 3 % = ?????? ?? ?????? (?2?2) * 100 400 ?? ?????? ?? ?????? = 3 400 100 V of H2O2 = 12 ml
Question 4 In a 2000 g solution of glucose that is labeled 5.0% (m/m), the mass of water is 2000 g. 100 g. 1995 g. 1900 g.
Problem solving 5 = ???? ?? ?????? (???????) 2000 Mass of ??????? = 5 2000 But in the question the mass of the water is unknown So mass of water = mass of solution (glucose and water) mass of glucose mass of water = 2000 100 = 1900 g is mass of water * 100 = 100 g is mass of glucose 100
Question 5 What volume of acetic acid is present in a bottle containing 350.0 ml of a solution which concentration? measures 5.00%
Problem solving 5 = ?????? ?? ?????? (??3????) 350 ?? V of acetic acid (CH3COOH) = 5 350 * 100 100 Volume of acetic acid = 17.5 ml
