  1. Passive Voice: General Review. Prof. Angel Araiza, May 14th 2020

  2. Going to Active: Active Voice or Normal Voice is when you have a regular sentence. The action moves forward, following the structure: Subject Verb Object.

  3. Understanding Passive Voice: Passive Voice focuses on the OBJECT of the sentence. Think of the Active Voice as the Subject Giving an object Think of the Passive Voice as the Reception of the Object.

  4. Each Verbal Time has a Passive form:

The different Verbal Times: Active Voice: Simple Present: Present Progressive: Simple Past: Past Progressive: Will: Going to: Present Perfect: Past Perfect: Passive Voice: Present Perfect (to be). Present Progressive Perfect. Past Perfect (to be). Past Progressive Perfect. Will be done. Be going to be one. Double Present Perfect. Double Past Perfect.

  6. The subject is less important: Sometimes, the Subject is not important to the sentence so we can skip it.

  7. Example 1: The first Four Verbal Time: Example: Roger peels bananas for the Banana Splits. Simple Present: To: Bananas are Peeled by Roger for the Banana Split. Tim and John are making a new documentary for History Channel . A new documentary is being made by Tim and John for History Channel . The harvest gave 100 kilograms of tomatoes to us. Present Progressive To: Simple Past To: 100 kilograms of tomatoes were given by the harvest to us. Caddence was driving a Hot Rod at ridiculous speed. A Hot Rod was being driven by Caddence at ridiculous speed. Past Progressive To:

  8. Example 2, In Negative Form: Verbal Time: Example: I don t usually visit cemeteries. Simple Present: To: Cemeteries are not usually visited by me. You aren t meeting my Friends after class. Present Progressive To: My Friends aren t being met by you after class. The Medic didn t take care of the infection. Simple Past To: The infection wasn t taken care of by the Medic. The Politicians weren t breaking the law. Past Progressive To: The laws weren t being broken by the Politicians.

  9. Example 3: In Interrogative Form: Verbal Time: Simple Present: Example: Do we drink Coffee and Tea in the morning?. Are coffee and tea drunk by us in the morning? Are all of you listening to the podcast? Is the podcast being listened to by all of you? Did the truck shake the package? Was the package shaken by the truck?
