  4. Introduction What is motivation? Are motives necessary in every day life? Or only at professional settings? What factors influence motivation? 3

  5. Motivation: the concept It is a skill The aim is to create incentives that will support us in reaching the targets It is innate: some people know instinctively how to motivate themselves Some others struggle and acquire it 4

Motivation and the parameters Variety of motives due to individual needs Interrelated with goal setting Goal setting: carefully design, prioritize, adjust the behavior towards them and never quit no matter what Based on research on individuals with strong motives, three factors have been noticed Positiveness, Gratitude and Self-esteem In order to achieve the goals/ ambitions, we need to enhance these traits 5

  8. Score rating Score of 26 and over: Excellent! Your self-esteem is high. Score of 18-25: Good, but you can still strengthen your self-esteem. Score of 12-17: You have low self-esteem. You need to take care of it. Score of 0-11: Your self-esteem is non-existent. You need a lot of work. 7

The Notebook Method Take advantage of your strong qualities Think and observe what facts please/ satisfy you during a day Identify the particular quality in your personality (i.e. interest, communication talent) that caused this sentiment Gradually you will form a clear picture of your strong points Your self-esteem will be strengthened You will realize what you are good at and will take advantage of it -> reasons: to go after a higher position, a carreer 9

  11. B. The Trilateral Motivation Method Congratulate in Public and Criticize in private Are there any talented people who can help others distinguish the best qualities in them? This method works regardless of the age, cultural background and professional differences (1) Identify and communicate the action he/she did correctly (2) Express honesty and sincere appreciation (3) Repeat the above step three to four times with different contexts / actions Avoid mentioning the wrong actions cos it causes discouragement, feeling of incapability 10

  12. C. The Dolphin Method A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Always see the individual steps and not the thousand miles This method is helpful to increase performance rate It involves several steps according to the level you wish to reach (1) Define the ideal level of skills to be developed (2) Design the steps, one by one, taking into the incremental nature (3) Once the first step is achieved, give positive motivation (i.e. show respect, acknowledgment, with words, sign) (4) Proceed with the following steps Positive motivation needs to be repeated so as to secure stabilization. 11

Pinpointing similarities appreciation, ambition, discriminate, gradually, gratitude, insistence, mentioned, public, skill, spectacular The ability to motivate employees is an essential art for a manager.
