  3. COMMON MENTAL HEALTH CONDITIONS Five most common conditions at public hospitals: Schizophrenia Depression Anxiety disorders Bipolar disorder Substance abuse disorder

  4. COMMON MENTAL HEALTH CONDITIONS Three most common conditions at polyclinics: Depression Anxiety disorders Sleep disorders e.g. insomnia

  5. COMMON MENTAL HEALTH CONDITIONS Other commonly known mental illnesses include: Eating disorders Addictive behaviours

  6. PEOPLE ARE RELUCTANT TO SEEK HELP In 2016, the timetaken to seek help when symptoms occur is: 11 years for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) 4 years for Bipolar Disorder and Alcohol Abuse Disorder 2 years for Generalised Anxiety Disorder 1 year for Major Depressive Disorder

  7. Mental health problems affect: One in every five young people at any given time.

SINGAPORE IS DOING WELL FOR MENTAL HEALTH Compared to other high-income nations: Mental illness lifetime prevalence rate is at 13.9% (just behind Hong Kong) Generalised anxiety disorder lifetime prevalence rate at 1.6% Lowest rates of psychiatrists and psychologists per 100,000 residents All in all, Singapore has one of the lowest rates of mental illnesses.

  9. RAISING AWARENESS Outreach initiatives aims to: To inform that mental health is important for overall health and well-being Provide information on where to seek help from Facilitate early identification and access to interventions Dispel the myth that people with mental illnesses are violent

  10. WHERE CAN I SEEK HELP FROM? Anyone struggling with mental health issues may: Consult a doctor Consult a mental health professional Talk to someone in the family Talk to a friend Contact the Singapore Association for Mental Health (SAMH) at 1800 283 7019

  11. ATTITUDES IN THE WORKPLACE 4 in 10 employees have gross misconceptions and prejudices against mental health. Nearly 1 in 2 Singaporeans are unwilling to work with colleagues facing mental health issues. Our workforce has to struggle with mental health conditions.

  12. RAISING AWARENESS Sufficient evidence shows that investing in workplace mental well- being is smart because: it improves productivity and long- term business sustainability.

Guiding them through every step in accessing mental health services. Learning about and then providing them with facts about mental health. Dispelling myths about mental health.
