Leukaemia is a malignant disorder of the blood-forming organs characterized by an abnormal increase in white blood cells. Its causes include genetic, environmental, and medical factors. Symptoms may include anaemia, fever, fatigue, and more. Diagnosis involves history collection, physical examination, and blood tests. Treatment options include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and stem cell transplantation. Nursing management focuses on infection prevention, platelet monitoring, and patient comfort.

  1. LEUKAEMIA

  2. DEFINITION A MALIGNANT DISORDER OF BLOOD FORMING ORGAN ( SPLEEN, LYMPHATIC SYSTEM AND BONE MARROW) CHARACTERIZED BY AN ABNORMAL INCREASE NUMBER OF WHITE BLOOD CELL. IT IS A CANCER OF BLOOD CELLS WHICH STARTS IN THE BONE MARROW WHERE BLOOD CELLS ARE MADE.

  3. CAUSES UNKNOWN FACTORS ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS ( EXPOSURE TO RADIATION) INFECTIOUS AGENTS (RETROVIRUS) HEREDITORY ASPECTS--- FAMILY OCCURRENCE CHROMOSOMAL ABNORMALITIES EASY DOWN SYNDROME CHEMOTHEFRAPY TO TREAT ANOTHER CANCER TOBACCO CHEWING

  4. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS ANAEMIA FEVER AND NIGHT SWEAT HEADACHE GUM DISORDERS (BRUSHING AND BLEEDING EASILY) FATIGUE DISORIENTATION THROMBOCYTOPENIA ( LOW PLATELETS LEVEL) EPISTAXIS PAIN IN THE BONE AND JOINTS

  5. CONT.. NEUTROPENIA (LOW LEVEL OF W.B.C) SWOLLEN LYMPH NODES IN THE ARMPIT , NECK AND GROIN. FEELING OF ABNORMAL FULNESS DUE TO HEPATOSPLENOMEGALY(enlargement of liver and spleen) HYPERURICEMIA ( AN EXCESS OF URIC ACID IN BLOOD)

  6. DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION HISTORY COLLECTION PHYSICAL EXAMINATION COMPLETE BLOOD COUNT ( SHOW INCREASE W.B.C AND DECREASED OTHER CELLS) BONE MARROW BIOPSY

  7. COMPLICATION HEPATOSPLENOMEGALY HAEMORRHAGE

  8. MANAGEMENT CHEMOTHERAPY RADIATION THERAPY STEM CELL TRANSPLANTATION (STEM CELL CAN REBUILD SUPPLY OF NORMAL BLOOD CELLS AND BOOST PATIENT IMMUNE SYSTEM)

  9. NURSING MANAGEMENT ALWAYS USE ASEPTIC TECHNIQUE TO REDUCE CHANCE OF INFECTION. MONITOR THE PLATELET COUNT. AVOID MUCOSAL AND EPITHELIAL DAMAGE OBSERVE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF CHEMOTHERAPY AVOID URINARY CATHETERIZATION. AVOID RECTAL INFECTION PREVENT BLEEDING GIVE ANALGESICS TO AVOID PAIN GIVE ORAL HYGIENE ENCOURAGE NUTRITIONAL DIET TO PATIENT.
