Session 5 Hippo Time is ok! We looked at positive thoughts in the previous session sometimes we can all find it hard to move on, or change our thoughts. We are all going to have good days and bad days during the Coronavirus crisis. Some days we will be able to keep ourselves occupied, and the day will seem quite normal. Other days will be more difficult. The news will feel overwhelming and the worries will feel overbearing. This is OK. In fact, it s normal It s OK not to be OK
Hippo Time means taking some time to acknowledge our fears, our sadness, our confusion, our frustration and our anger. All these emotions, and many more are normal. Our emotions are what makes us human. Hippo Time is a useful mini break for quiet, calm and for thinking; to get events, situations and life in perspective. Hippo Time is time to find some balance and some clarity.
Why Hippo Time? What do hippos love to do? They love to wallow in the mud! They do this to get out of the heat, to cool down and to play. But and this is the really important bit Hippo time is temporary. Hippo Time helps us to move on. Moving on is saying to yourself, I ve had my Hippo Time and I m OK now. Moving On with an awareness and understanding. Moving On with greater clarity, perspective and purpose. Think about your Hippo Time. Is there anything you do to help during this time? Something that helps you wallow, then move on?
Most of us may take a little detour before Hippo Time. We may get angry, or need to retreat, distract ourselves before this wallow time. Hippo Time can be a bridge between us stopping and trying to understand what is happening or what has happened, and the moving on stage. A place and time to press pause. This is normal and part of our learning process. It is part of having a growth mindset. Hippo Time is OK!
