What is General Relief? Page 3 The General Relief (GR) program is designed to provide relief and support to adults who are not supported by their own means, other public funds, or assistance programs. GR benefits are a loan and must be repaid to the County wp.SBCounty.gov/tad
Basics of General Relief (GR) Page 4 GR benefits are repaid to the County by: Sending payments to Human Services (HS) Auditing Supplemental Security Income (SSI) reimbursement Real property lien wp.SBCounty.gov/tad
Application Requirements Page 5 GR applicants must provide: Social Security card(s) Citizenship verification such as: Birth certificate/passport, or Immigration verification Proof of residency Divorce decree or verification of legal separation (if applicable) Proof of income Verification of property wp.SBCounty.gov/tad
Application Requirements Page 6 GR applicants must also provide proof of application of other sources of income/benefits when applicable. Every applicant will get the opportunity to apply for: CalFresh, and/or Medi-Cal If applicable, applicants must apply for: Unemployment Insurance Benefits (UIB) State Disability Insurance (SDI) Supplemental Security Income/State Supplementary Payment (SSI/SSP) Retirement/pension funds Veteran s (VA) benefits wp.SBCounty.gov/tad
Application Requirements Page 7 If you are able to work, you must: Register with the Workforce Development Department (WDD) Provide 10 job search contacts per week If you are disabled or unable to work, you must: Provide verification you are physically or mentally unable to work Meet with the SSI Advocate and meet requirements monthly wp.SBCounty.gov/tad
Application Requirements Page 8 You will not be eligible to GR if you: Exceed resource limits Are a parole or probation violator Are a fleeing felon Have lost a job within the last 90 days due to quitting voluntarily Are self-employed (occasional odd jobs are not necessarily classified as self-employment) Are living in a treatment facility Are supported by any state or private institution Are attending school and employable wp.SBCounty.gov/tad
General Relief (GR) Benefits Page 9 Benefits are issued by check on the 1st of each month Benefit amounts depend on Assistance Unit size wp.SBCounty.gov/tad
General Relief (GR) Reporting Requirements Page 10 All GR customers must provide an Eligibility Status Report for General Relief (GR 7) by the 5thof the month in which the GR 7 is due to determine continued eligibility Customers who have a verified disability will provide a GR 7 quarterly All other customers will provide a GR 7 monthly The GR 7 must be complete for it to be processed wp.SBCounty.gov/tad
Mandatory mid-period reports Page 11 Quarterly reporting customers must report the following mandatory mid-period changes to their assigned Eligibility Worker (EW): Starting employment or an increase in hours New income or an increase in income Address change Change in disability wp.SBCounty.gov/tad
