Understanding Double Fouls in Football
Double fouls can occur when both teams commit live-ball fouls during the same period. In such cases, penalties offset, and the down is replayed. Possession changes do not affect the outcome as long as the team in final possession had clean hands before fouling.

Double fouls/offsetting fouls
Rule 10-2-1 It is a double foul if both teams commit live ball fouls (other than nonplayer or UNS) during the same live-ball period in which There is no COP (unless the Team R fouls are PSK fouls); or There is a COP , and the team in final possession fouls prior to the final COP (i.e., didn t get the ball with clean hands ); or There is a COP and the team in final possession accepts the penalty for its opponents foul at any time during the down

Down & possession after penalty Rule 4-2-1: After a distance penalty, the ball belongs to the team in possession at the time of the foul unless it is a PSK foul or KCI. the ball is almost always going to belong to the team that had possession when they fouled. (Watch out for angry coaches!)
Double fouls & COP Know the rules to determine whether an offset is appropriate or if the team in final possession has an option to keep the ball (Rule 10-2-2). Recall: It doesn t matter how many times team possession changes If team in final possession got the ball with clean hands, they can keep it provided they decline their opponents foul (no matter when it occurred during the down), and so long as these are live-ball fouls and not LED fouls.
Example 1 1/10 @ A-30. A75 is flagged for being illegally downfield. A1 s pass is intercepted by B7 at the A- 40, who runs and is downed at the A-10. During B7 s run, B9 is flagged for an illegal block in the back at the A-20.

Lets recap DOUBLE BOCK: DOUBLE BOTH (prost!) Double foul = Both teams commit live-ball fouls (other than UNS or nonplayer fouls) during the same down. If there s a COP (and we re not dealing with LED fouls or PSK fouls) then the team in final possession can decline the penalty for their opponent s foul, keep the ball, and have their own penalty enforced.
