  7. MYTHS AND FACTS Drugs are not harmful if used for medication -myth. The safest drugs can have negative effects on your health and well being if used too often or over too long periods of time fact. Smoking marijuana is not harmful myth. When smoked marijuana can affect users almost immediately and can last for one to three hours fact. When marijuana is eaten in food like baked biscuits, the effects take longer to begin but usually last longer (hallucination, delusions, impaired memory, disorientation) fact. Effects include: distorted perception(sight, time, touch, sound), challenges with learning and memory, loss of coordination, challenges with problem-solving and thinking, increased heart rate, reduced blood, can sometimes produce anxiety, fear, distrust and panic fact. sources: Buddy T.   8. EFFECTS OF HERION Heroin is an illegal drug. Whether injected, snorted or smoked it begins to affect the body s central nervous system almost immediately. Short-term effects: feeling of euphoria, dry mouth, flushing of skin, feeling of heavy arms and legs, cloudy mental function, breathing at a slow rate.   9. EFFECTS OF OXYCOTIN It is one of the most abused prescription drugs. It produces a quick and powerful high . Symptoms include: slow breathing, seizures, dizziness, weakness, loss of consciousness, coma, confusion, tiredness, cold and clammy skin, small pupils, reduced vision, nausea, vomiting, clouding of mental functions. It ages people prematurely and leads to irreversible dental problems ( meth mouth ). It causes mental health problems. Gives a false impression of improvement of mood but makes it worse later. However we suggest the following: Students should be mindful of such drugs if found anywhere and avoid them. Parents should pay close attention to what happens around their children/wards.   12. Kindly Note School management should add these drugs on the list of dangerous drugs that attract penalty. Nigerian government needs to imitate the reaction of the US Senators in 2007 by introducing strong penalties that will increase the criminal penalties for those who market or manufacture these candy flavoured drugs by imposing tough sentences on them as that of the drug dealers who market to minors.   13. EFFECTS OF CODEINE Codeine is also known as Tylenol 3. Side effects include: lightheadedness, drowsiness, headaches, mood changes, stomach pain, constipation, difficulty in passing urine. Codeine overdose symptoms: bluish-coloured fingernails and lips. Breathing problems. Cold and clammy skin, coma, confusion, dizziness, fatigue, lightheadedness, loss of consciousness, low blood pressure, tiny pupils, spasms of the stomach and intestines, weakness, weak pulse (some of these symptoms can occur even when codeine is taken as prescribed).
