Why transitions?
6
Transition Term Fellows in Illinois with Governor Pritzker
Arguably more important than the “First 100
days”,
transitions are when defining decisions
and
activities
 occur such as:
Vetting and hiring candidates for roles within
the administration
Setting an administration’s priorities though
detailed policy agendas for executing on
promises
Crisis management and response
Working with the outgoing administration to
ensure a smooth handover
Transitions are where “the rubber meets the
road” as campaign trail promises are
operationalized with strategies and personnel

Transition term
We work to build diverse teams of three
students each who have a mix of 1) skills,
2) geographic familiarity and 3) interests
that align with the needs of our incoming
administrations
In early December, before final exams,
we’ll have an orientation program to help
familiarize you with the ins and outs of
transitions
In mid-December, after final exams before
the break, we will pay for you to visit your
counterpart incoming administrations to
scope out your work during January
In January, Transition Term starts. You’ll
work full-time with your placement to help
them start off on the right foot
