Writing to Sources: Argument TOPIC: What are the most effective tools for establishing and preserving freedom? Use the U.S. texts in this unit to identify some of the most successful tools (i.e. processes, government institutions, value systems, documents and so on) that the Founders established. Use other texts from the unit to demonstrate how well those tools have stood the test of time. Supplement with examples of your own ideas and research. (Use at least 3 pieces of textual evidence from unit texts as well as other evidence)
Elements of an Argument Argument A narrowed Thesis A precise claim in each body paragraph Clear reasoning and well-chosen evidence Counterargument: a consideration of counterclaims (opposing positions) and their strengths (concession) and weaknesses (rebuttal) A logical organization Formal and objective language and tone Error-free grammar
