A Message from The Principals Desk Tingkhong College was established in the year 1972 with the aim of providing Higher Secondary and undergraduate level education in the region, an aim that the college has been striving for excellence since its inception. The college strives for all-round development of its students by making sure to provide quality education to its students. Additionally, the college also focuses on engaging students in sports, cultural, and other extracurricular activities. We have in-campus facilities to hone both academic and co-curricular skills of students in order to facilitate their holistic development. Despite facing numerous challenges, through different stages the college has uplifted itself to produce students who have excelled at areas such as academics, sports, self-employment, etc. Tingkhong College has successfully completed two cycles of NAAC evaluation in the year 2007 and 2015 with a grading of C+ and B respectively. Now the college is ready to invite the third cycle shortly. Having celebrated the Golden Jubilee of Tingkhong College in September, 2022, I am now happy to announce a new journey, the new science stream, which has been made possible with the efforts of all stakeholders of the college. I consider myself fortunate to be able to lead the college into a highly necessary new avenue of higher education in Tingkhong. I consider the opening of the new science stream in Tingkhong Collegeto be a step towards the achievement of yet another milestone in the composite vision of the founders; previous principals; other remarkable individuals who have invested their time and commitment throughout the journey of the institution so far. Hence, looking forward to continuing this journey of illumination towards a brighter path in the future, I am elated and honoured to welcome students to pursue their Higher Secondary and Undergraduate courses in the available streams of Arts and Science. I can assure the potential candidates willing to study in Tingkhong College that our institute has excellent faculties of the best calibre that an institution can wish to have. With their valuable service and assistance combined with the students committed efforts, I am sure we can together take Tingkhong College to greater heights in the near future. We also welcome and encourage an open and positive communication with parents in the form of parent teacher-interaction, as we see them as rightful partners in education of their children. I wish you all the best. Dr.Mouchumi Gogoi Principal Tingkhong College

The college started and functioned as an Arts college with the Higher Secondary and the B.A courses being offered. Tingkhong College took shape in its initial phases with the sheer determination and contributions of the responsible members of the local society as the urgent need for a higher education institution was felt. The college had been running on the funds generated through admissions and other institutional fund-raising initiatives, public contribution and generous donations from philanthropists in those times. However, with the status of Deficit Grant-in-Aid being received by the college later on, the need for regular and secure financial assistance from the government was met. Tingkhong College was recognised by the University Grants Commission and included in 2(f) of the UGC Act in the year 2001 which proved to be a huge step in its development. Subsequently, the college further benefitted from the historic decision of the Government of Assam to provincialize all deficit grant-in-aid colleges with effect from 1stDecember, 2005. Now the college enjoys the status of Provincialized College . The College grew from strength to strength on the merit of its students, the dedication of its teachers and the visions of the different Principals serving office through different phases of its history. An institution which began its academic endeavour with just a handful of teachers and students now offers education to roughly 1600 students yearly with the help of near 30 teachers including sanctioned and non-sanctioned contractual teachers. The college presently has 7 Arts departments that cater to the needs of the Higher Secondary and Undergraduate level education. The college also has a Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University Study Centre at the College premises which offers a wide range of choices to students. With the science stream being granted to the college by the Govt. of Assam, the college looks forward to becoming the first institution to offer the HS and Undergraduate course in science and eradicate a major setback faced by the area.
