The first four books in the New Testament are called the
Gospels.
The word
‘Gospel’ comes from a Greek word

meaning ‘good news’. The Gospels tell
us the Good News of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. They also tell us
about the earliest followers of Jesus. The Gospels were written by Mark,
Matthew, Luke and John, who are known as the
Evangelists
.

The book known as the
Acts of the Apostles
tells us about the Apostles and
the other early followers of Jesus (disciples) and how they continued to
spread the message of Jesus when he was no longer with them. They
include, for example, Peter, the apostle and first Pope, and Paul, one of the
early converts to Christianity and the first great Christian missionary.

Most of the rest of the New Testament is made up of
letters
 by St Paul and other
leaders of the early Church to the various Christian communities. These letters
explained the message of Jesus to the early followers and helped them to
understand what it meant to live as a friend and follower of Jesus. These letters
also offered them hope and encouragement in difficult times.

The last book of the New Testament, known as the
Book of

Revelation
, contains
many prophecies (predictions or revelations about what will happen in the
future) about the world and its end. This book is also known as the
Apocalypse
. It
is a strange and mysterious book. It uses many unusual images to tell about the
end of the world and about Jesus’ victory over sin and evil.
