Concentration is crucial for athletes, especially during penalties in hockey. Progressive Muscle Relaxation training can enhance concentration by requiring players to focus while relaxing. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of PMR on improving hockey athletes' concentration during penalties compared to traditional training methods.

  1. THE EFFECT OF PROGRESSIVE MUSCLE RELAXATION TRAINING METHOD ON INCREASING THE CONCENTRATION OF HOCKEY ATHLETES DURING PENALTY OKI WIJAYA SAPUTRA NIM : 1905940 UNIVERSITAS PENDIDIKAN INDONESIA

  2. INTRODUCTION Concentration in athletes is something that needs to be improved. Progressive muscle relaxation training will require players to concentrate to be more relaxed in a way of doing a technique or imagining a situation during the match. Progressive Muscle Relaxation training because it is very necessary to require a high level of concentration in athletes. Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) is a relaxation therapy that involves tightening and relaxing the muscles of one part of the body at a time to provide a feeling of physical relaxation.

  3. FORMULATION OF THE PROBLEM Is there a significant influence of the Progressive Muscle Relaxation training method on increasing the concentration of hockey athletes during penalties? Is there an effect of traditional training on increasing the concentration of hockey athletes during penalties? Is there a difference in the effects of Progressive Muscle Relaxation training and traditional training? RESEARCH PURPOSES To examine the significant effect of Progressive Muscle Relaxation training method on increasing the concentration of hockey athletes during penalties. To examine the significant effect of penalty training on increasing the concentration of hockey athletes during penalties. To examine the difference in the effect of Progressive Muscle Relaxation training with penalty training on increasing the concentration of hockey athletes during penalties. BENEFITS OF RESEARCH For Coaches, this study is expected to be used as input on the description of varying athlete motivation so that they can choose and determine the appropriate methods and techniques. For Athletes, so that athletes know the program they have, and as insight into the knowledge that to achieve sports achievements, Progressive Muscle Relaxation has a very important role in increasing penalty results. For Coaches, as data to evaluate the Progressive Muscle Relaxation training program that has been implemented, and to design the program that will be implemented

  4. THEORITICAL REVIEW Progressive Muscle Relaxation: Progressive Muscle Relaxation is a relaxation therapy with movements to tighten and relax the muscles of one part of the athlete's body at a time to provide a feeling of physical relaxation. These muscle tightening movements are done in sequence. Concentration: Concentration is the ability to focus attention or concentrate is indeed a very difficult thing to do. Concentration is very much needed especially for sports that require high concentration, one of which is hockey because this sport requires full awareness and is directed at a certain object that is not easily shaken.

  6. HYPOTHESIS 1. There is a significant influence of the Progressive Muscle Relaxation training method on increasing the concentration of hockey athletes during penalties. 2. There is a significant influence of traditional training on increasing the concentration of hockey athletes during penalties. 3. There is a significant difference in the influence between Progressive Muscle Relaxation training and traditional training on increasing the concentration of hockey athletes during penalties.

  7. RESEARCH METHODS: In this study, the research method used is experimental with a quantitative approach. It is a research method used to find the effect of certain treatments on others. RESEARCH DESIGN: In this study, the Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design was used. This design states that in this design there are two experimental groups and a control group, both groups carry out pretests and posttests and only the experimental group receives treatment.

  8. POPULATION: Hockey Athletes of Sukabumi City SAMPLE: 14 Hockey Athletes of Sukabumi City SAMPLING TECHNIQUE: Purposive Sampling Hockey Athletes of Sukabumi City. Have participated in regional hockey championships. Will participate in the nearest hockey championship competition. LOCATION AND TIME: Suryakencana Stadium, Dayeuh Luhur, Warudoyong District, Sukabumi City, West Java, 43291. Tuesday at 15:00, Thursday at 15:00 and Friday at 15:00 at Suryakencana Sports Hall. RESEARCH INSTRUMENT: Concentration Grid Test

  11. RESULTS Progressive Muscle Relaxation training method to increase the concentration of hockey athletes during penalties. Increasing the concentration of hockey athletes during penalties that Progressive Muscle Relaxation training has a significant effect on increasing the concentration of hockey athletes during penalties based on the results of the paired sample t-test. Traditional training does not have a significant effect on increasing the concentration of hockey athletes during penalties based on the results of the paired sample T-test. There is a significant difference in the influence between Progressive Muscle Relaxation training and traditional training on increasing the concentration of hockey athletes during penalties based on the results of the independent paired sample t-test.
