Session 3: HONOR
Your grip determines your greatness.
Genesis 14:14-24 Holding onto honor in a world of dishonor
Honor: to treat as weighty, of great value or importance Dishonor: to treat lightly, or worthless or unimportant
I have raised my hand to the LORD, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, and have taken an oaththat I will accept nothing belonging to you . . . so that you will never be able to say, I made Abram rich. Genesis 14:22 Genesis 14:22- -23 23
The only way to relate to God I [God] will honor those who honor Me, and I will despise those who think lightly of Me. (1 Samuel 2:20) (1 Samuel 2:20)
The only way to relate to each other Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. (Romans 12:10) (Romans 12:10)
Is not the same thing as respect or agreement Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king. (1 Peter 2:17) (1 Peter 2:17)
Is the key to see God s supernatural promises come true Jesus said, Only in his hometown. . . and in his own house is a prophet without honor. He could not do any miracles there (Mark 6:4 (Mark 6:4- -5) 5)
Can be lost by what you don t do or say Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all you receive; then you will be filled to overflowing with all that is good. (Proverbs 3:9 (Proverbs 3:9- -10) 10)
THE JOURNEY OF GIVING HONOR Step 1: Emerging Giver You give honor when someone pleases you
THE JOURNEY OF GIVING HONOR Step 2: Consistent Giver You consistently give honor to people you agree with or respect.
THE JOURNEY OF GIVING HONOR Step 3: Foundational Giver God, not you, chooses who you give honor to. You may not even respect/agree with them.
The Bible foundationally calls us to honor: Parents (Exodus 20:12) Spouse (Ephesians 5:21) Family (1 Timothy 5:8) Church leaders and teachers (1 Timothy 5:17) Other believers (Romans 12:10) Government leaders & authorities (Romans 13:1f) The poor and outcast (Proverbs 14:31) Those we owe money to (Romans 13:7-8)
THE JOURNEY OF GIVING HONOR Step 4: Missional Giver You live in honor so that His Kingdom comes and His will is done on earth.
THE JOURNEY OF GIVING HONOR Step 5: Fully Surrendered Giver This is the full image of Jesus. You lay your life down to honor God in a world that dishonors Him. You keep your grip on honor when the world dishonors and seeks to destroy you.
Church Vision Meeting Tonight, 6-7p Honoring what God has done. Honoring our leaders. Honoring our leaders. Honoring God with our future. Honor starts in God s House.
Honoring Who You Are To God For we are God s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
You are Gods entrusted servant to a broken world. I honor you today. I am all in for who you are to God.
