  2. Context 41 College/University program providers 22 Georgia TAPP program providers (career changers) Together, they supply around two-thirds of new teachers hired annually GA providers produce an average of 4,500 new teachers every year

  3. Context General Education Fields: Birth Through Kindergarten Early Childhood (P-5) Middle Grades (4-8) Secondary education by content area (6-12)

  4. Context Applicable Specialized Fields: ECE/Special Education Reading Special Education Preschool Special Education Speech Language Pathology School Psychologist

  5. Current Requirements For all teacher prep. programs: Three or more semester hours of coursework in the identification and education of children who have special educational needs. Candidates must have a working knowledge of Georgia s framework for the identification of differentiated learning needs of students and how to implement multi-tiered structures of support addressing the range of learning needs.

  6. Current Requirements Standards-based approach Sample from Birth Through Kindergarten: The program shall prepare candidates who understand the specific disabilities, including the etiology, characteristics, and classification of common disabilities in infants and young children, and specific implications for development and learning in the first years of life.

  7. Proposed Solutions Our process to address your recommendations will include: Engaging P-12 practitioners, program providers, and parents in a Task Force Gathering research and resources from experts in the field Examining existing program requirements and practices, and identifying gaps Making the necessary rule changes and supporting program providers as they implement changes and additions
