This project focuses on services provided by Social Work partners in prisons to identify the roles, users of IT systems, access methods, constraints, and opportunities for streamlining. The Discovery Phase will target specific test sites for assessment and outline the scope and out-of-scope areas. The project aims to improve the delivery of adult services within the prison environment by understanding the roles, services, and IT needs of various stakeholders involved.

Tests of Change Discovery Phase This project will focus specifically on services provided by Social Work partners. The need is to identify; who, what and how these adult services can be provided in prisons. That means learning about: The roles required to deliver the Social Work services The roles / potential users of the IT system(s) and what they re trying to achieve How they access the IT system(s) Any constraints to accessing the IT system(s) for example because of regulation, legislation or physical/structural barriers in prisons Opportunities to streamline and apply consistency
Tests of Change - Discovery Scope The scope of the Discovery phase of work will be on the following test sites: HMP Castle Huntly* HMP Grampian HMP Greenock* HMP Low Moss* HMP Perth* HMP Shotts * HMP Castle Huntly / HMP Perth and HMP Greenock / HMP Low Moss will be managed by one person respectively but identified as 2 individual test sites
Tests of Change - Discovery Out of Scope Review of any other HMP establishment outwith the identified test sites Development or delivery of any of the recommendations made in the report Social Care partners / supply of services Health systems / access as prison health staff already have access Creation of new IT systems to bring health and social care together
Tests of Change - Discovery How we will do this We will focus on partners and services supplied by the following roles currently working in the community: Social Workers Occupational Therapists Community Physiotherapists Social Worker Assistants Speech Therapists Other community based colleagues yet to be identified during interviews and discussions We will also meet with Prison based Social Work staff / teams
Tests of Change - Discovery How we will do this During our meeting with both the community social work staff and prison based social work staff we want to identify; Which of those roles require to access IT systems The IT systems they require to access How they will access those systems Any security protocols required to access those systems
Tests of Change - Discovery Deliverables The output from Discovery will be a report which will provide information in regards to; The roles of the persons from Social Work partners and providers entering a HMP establishment to supply services Which of those roles will require to access IT systems, if any The systems / homepages they require to be accessed Potentially a range of recommended processes / security protocols / procedures governing the access and use of the systems with some indicative costs The processes they will be unable to use to access these systems In order that your new hire Social Work staff will have the equipment / access they require to do their job, compliant to Scottish Prison Services rules and regulations
