SUICIDE PREVENTION: STAFF COUNSELLING CENTRE STATISTICS Number of Referrals Red Flag clients 13% 2018/19 730 2017/18 636 2016/17 572 2015/16 451 0 200 400 600 800 The projected figure for 2018/19 equates to approximately 6% of the workforce 13% of all referrals are Red Flagged . That means we identify them as clients of concern such as suicidal ideation, domestic abuse or child protection issues

SUICIDE PREVENTION SOME FACTS Suicide = most common cause of death in men Often, a temporary problem but a permanent under 50 solution In 2016 800,000 people died worldwide from Commonly preventable suicide Talking about suicide DOES NOT increase the More than 6,000 in the UK + Republic of Ireland probability of it happening Highest rate for men age 45-49 Permission One suicide affects 20+ other people Beware assumptions

  9. SUPPORTING SOMEONE WHO IS SUICIDAL SEE NOTICE CHANGE SAY DO NOT AVOID THE WORD SUICIDE SIGNPOST THE STAFF COUNSELLING CENTRE ALWAYS ASSESS SUICIDALITY

  10. WHAT TO DO NEXT SUICIDAL THOUGHTS OR IS THERE A PLAN? WHAT TO DO NEXT? DO NOT PUT YOURSELF AT PERSONAL RISK

  11. IMMEDIATE RISK MEANS IMMEDIATE ACTION How to judge the risk as immediate and what action to take If so, there needs to be immediate action! Dial 999 or 111 option 2 We advise NOT driving someone
