Student Budgeting Advice Service Your Fees 1. Tuition Fees- Are you entitled to Free Fees? 2. Student Contribution- 3,000 (2021/22) SUSI Grant? SUSI will pay directly to the University No SUSI Grant- 1stInstalment on registration- September 2021 (50% fees + levy, currently 1,650) 2ndInstalment paid in January 2022 ( 1,500) 3. Student levy - 150 (2021/22) All students pay regardless of SUSI or other supports. *All queries - Fees and Grants Office
Student Budgeting Advice Service Higher Education Grants For undergraduates there are two classes of grant under the Student Grant Scheme A Fee Grant, part or full Student Contribution payment A Maintenance Grant, monthly payment to students Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI) is the single awarding authority for all new grant applications for the 2021/22 academic year
Information on grant eligibility and how to apply is available at the SUSI website www.susi.ie Before making an application, students are encouraged to refer to the grant eligibility criteria, to use the eligibility reckoner and to view application form guide provided on the SUSI website.
Student Budgeting Advice Service Renewing your application Automatically renew online if there are no changes to your situation. Changes in circumstances that affect your renewal are: A sibling or parent starting college in 2021/22 Change of home address since your last student grant application was made or last reviewed Change in course Change in college Change in reckonable income on which you were originally assessed for grant assistance in 2021/22
Change of Circumstances for income include: Gross income (before any tax is deducted) is assessed from 2020 for 2021/22 If this income has changes in 2021(e.g. lost job, retirement or closed business) let SUSI know and they can assess 2021 income instead. If you were on a COVID payment (PUP) and this has stopped you can let SUSI know by email with proof. You can request a review under change in circumstances at any time during the year.
Dont forget the Holiday Earnings disregard for student income: Up to 4,500 earned can be ignored if earned out of term You need to tell SUSI when you earned what you earned send in payslips or the Holiday Earnings Sheet PUP is NOT counted as earnings for this disregard so cannot be deducted

Student Budgeting Advice Service Appealing SUSI To SUSI (which must be received within 30 days of your original grant decision as advised to you by SUSI) Subsequently to the Student Grants Appeal Board You can ask for a review of the decision at any time! Grounds for Appeal: Adjacent/Non Adjacent rate (distance between college/home); Reassessment of your Total Household Income (if you feel it has been incorrectly assessed); Special Rate Change in Circumstances; Loss of Employment/Permanent Reduction in Salary; Retirement; Cessation of Business (If self employed); Nationality or Immigration status; Number of dependent children residing in the household; Sibling attending 3rd Level education; Change of Course; and Normal Residence
Student Budgeting Advice Service Questions you may have? What if I move out from my family home while studying. Will I be counted as an independent student? What if my parents/my income has changed? Can I work during term-time or holiday time, or will this effect my SUSI grant? If I change into a different course will I lose my SUSI grant? If I don t like my course and I want to start another, what happens to my SUSI grant? If I fail and have to repeat the full year will I lose my SUSI? If I am on BETA do I get a SUSI maintenance grant? If I am on BETA and work, is this counted as income for SUSI? If I want to defer a semester or a year what happens to my SUSI maintenance grant? I want to do an Erasmus year, will I be eligible for SUSI? If I am on a placement year, am I eligible for SUSI? If I receive financial assistance from another source is this counted as income for SUSI?

Student Budgeting Advice Service Social Welfare Options Back to Education Allowance (BTEA) details at Gov.ie. Budget 2017 brought in a special once off allowance for students with dependent children in receipt of BTEA of 500, paid in September. Under 26 s will now get full BTEA if they qualify. May be able to move from PUP to BTEA without standard waiting period. Other Social Welfare Payments. Look on grants and social welfare payments.
Student Budgeting Advice Service STUDENT SUPPORT FUNDS Student Assistance Fund (SAF) Financial help for students in significant financial difficulty to allow them to continue with their studies. Full and Part Time Registered Students. Means tested based on family income. Students can apply more than once. Contact the Student Budgeting Advisor.
Student Budgeting Advice Service OTHER STUDENT SUPPORT FUNDS Student Emergency Fund (SEF) For unforeseen and unexpected circumstances that affect the student s ability to engage with the college. Contact the Student Budgeting Advisor. Short Term Loan (STL) Up to 50 in cash to be repaid by the student. Food vouchers to help with unexpected costs. Urgent and unexpected circumstances. Apply to the Student Services Hub.
