What is Stress? 2 Types of Stress - Positive (Eustress): Stress that causes one to become more motivated and supports growth Examples - Eustress: School work, starting a new job, planning important events, moving - Distress: Divorce, death of a loved one, toxic relationships - Negative (Distress): Stress that takes up all your energy and thought
Common Symptoms of Stress Sweat (palms, pits, etc.) Increase in blood pressure, heart rate, and/or breathing rate Butterflies in stomach /nausea Shaking Bladder overdrive Headache/muscle tension Change in sleeping patterns (insomnia or hypersomnia) Change in appetite MOODY! Forgetful Long term stress can lead to numerous health issues

Stress Managing Techniques 1. Change your way of thinking a. Reframing: i. Change the way you look at something in order to feel better about them b. Positive thinking: i. Focus on your strengths, learn from your struggle, make a change
Tips for Stress-Managing Physical activity! Sit down and eat a healthy meal with family, friends, or alone Listen to music To relax To smile To vent Schedule time for yourself
Prevention Take Time to Relax - When stressed, relaxation is the best method to relieve stress on the mind and body - Benefits of Relaxing: - Slowing of heart rate - Reducing activities of stress hormones - Reducing anger and frustration - Provides a boost in confidence to handle big concerns/stress Avoid cigarettes and excessive alcohol Lead a healthy lifestyle Manage your time Take time to do things you enjoy Ways to Relax - Yoga - Deep breathing - Massage - Listening to music - Meditation
