  4. How do we manage arousal to ensure it doesnt affect our performance? Deep Breathing Mental Rehearsal, visualisation and imagery Positive Self Talk Breathing can sometimes become rapid and erratic Taking deep breaths can slow breathing down and return to its normal rhythm. Slower breathing means more oxygen to the brain helping to limit stress and arousal. Mental rehearsal involves rehearsing a successful performance in your mind before doing it for real. Visualisation and imagery involves imagining a positive outcome (winners podium) Takes place just before the skill is attempted. Involved reframing your thoughts, turning each negative one into a positive. Gives them a positive frame of mind and reduces arousal and stress. basketball Visualization Challenge Explain the impact each stress management technique has on performance.

  7. Stress management techniques are important to performers.   8. Stress management techniques are import to a diver as they allow them to remove stress and anxiety as well as ensuring the are at optimum level of arousal. Mental rehearsal is suited to a diver as it allows them to think about the dive they are going to perform in their head and play it through before actually doing it. It also allows them to imagine the dive performed successfully. This could reduce anxiety and stress from the diver and give them more confidence when performing for real. However, I think that deep breathing could be better suited to a diver as when they take deep breaths at the top of the diving board it reduces their heart rate, this will prepare them to dive and remove the stress and anxiety they may have. It could also help them concentrate more as they will be less nervous. This will result in a successful dive which could lead to more points being awarded.
