Status of endorsed Safety Standards (1/5) Thirteen Safety Standards published since the last CSS meeting in October: DS497 e: Maintenance, Testing, Surveillance and Inspection in Nuclear Power Plants, SSG-74 DS497g: Conduct of Operations at Nuclear Power Plants, SSG-76 DS511: Use of a Graded Approach in the Application of the Safety Requirements for Research Reactors, SSG-22 (Rev. 1) DS520: Hazards Associated with Human Induced External Events in Site Evaluation for Nuclear Installations, SSG- 79 DS517a: Safety of Conversion Facilities and Uranium Enrichment Facilities, SSG-5 (Rev. 1) DS517b: Safety of Uranium Fuel Fabrication Facilities, SSG-6 (Rev. 1) DS517c: Safety of Uranium and Plutonium Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facilities, SSG-7 (Rev. 1) 2
Status of endorsed Safety Standards (2/5) DS509a: Commissioning of Research Reactors, SSG-80 DS509b: Maintenance, Periodic Testing and Inspections of Research Reactors, SSG-81 DS509c: Core Management and Fuel Handling for Research Reactors, SSG-82 DS509d: Operational Limits and Conditions and Operating Procedures for Research Reactors, SSG-83 DS509e: The Operating Organization and the Recruitment, Training and Qualification of Personnel for Research Reactors, SSG-84 DS515: Compliance Assurance for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material, SSG-78 17 Safety Guides published in 2022. This is the highest rate ever achieved 11 safety Guides already issued in 2023. 3
Status of endorsed Safety Standards (3/5) Remaining endorsed Safety Standards to be issued after endorsement at CSS 51 (only 3 remaining) and CSS 52 (last meeting): DS509 f to h: Safety Guides for research reactors, in editing, will be submitted for CSS silence approval soon DS470: Radiation Safety of Radiation Sources used in Research and Education, in editing DS499: Application of the Concept of Exemption, in editing and DS500: Application of the Concept of Clearance, in editing DS521: Radiation Protection Programmes for the Transport of Radioactive Material, in editing DS523: Development and Application of Level 1 Probabilistic Safety Assessment for Nuclear Power Plants , in editing 4

Results of the 53rd CSS meeting Approval of DPPs: DPP DS541 for a Safety Guide on Assessment of Meteorological and Hydrological Hazards in Site Evaluation for Nuclear Installations (revision of SSG-18); DPP DS542 for a Safety Guide on Release of Sites from Regulatory Control on Termination of Activities in Planned Exposure Situations (revision of WS-G-5.1); DPP DS543 for a Safety Requirements publication on Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material, 20xx Edition SSR-6 (Rev. 2); DPP DS544 for a new Safety Guide on Radiation Protection and Safety in Existing Exposure Situations; DPP DS545 for a Safety Guide on Radiation Safety of Gamma, X Ray and Electron Beam Irradiation Facilities, revision of SSG-8; DPP DS546 for a new Safety Guide on Ageing Management and Maintenance of Radioactive Material Transport Packages. 9
Results of the 53rd CSS meeting Policy discussion: The development of a analysis on the challenges in the application of the safety standards and security guidance in an armed conflict situation and the preparation of a TECDOC was supported by the CSS The CSS appreciated the development of the medium term plan for the safety standards and discussed the concept paper for the preparation of the long term plan for the safety standards. A task force of CSS members will be established to prepare CSS contributions for the future development of the long term plan The revision of SPESS B and SPESS F was welcomed by the CSS . As appropriate this might be further considered in the future in a spirit of continuous improvement The CSS welcomed the progress report presented on achievements on the working plan established to implement the recommendations of the Commission for its 7th term. This will be complemented to draft the end of term report including proposed recommendations for the 8th term 10
