SNAP Support Team for Student Health & Wellness Center

How the support team works. SHW and Strategic Communications will be sending out messaging to students and programs. Communication will include information about the support team and a link to our webpage. Students will be able to find resources on our webpage as well as a list of all SNAP Support Team members and their email addresses. Students will be able to email any of the listed volunteers to ask questions and get support. Please plan to respond to student s email request as quickly as you are able to and within 3 business days. Offer follow-up assistance and encourage the student to appeal if they feel they ve been wrongly denied SNAP. 3

SNAP APPLICATION ASSISTANCE CHECKLIST Review each section with the student and check when complete. Review income guidelines Review Are You A Student Of Higher Education? How to help address stigma. https://oregonhunger.org/snap-college-toolkit/ SNAP helps you keep healthy food on the table so you don t have to choose between things like books, rent or food. SNAP allows you to choose the food you re comfortable with/or that is culturally appropriate for you. Many students participate in SNAP to not let stress about finances get in the way of their goals. SNAP benefits can be used to support local businesses. 7

How to document. Ideally, SNAP Support Team volunteers will not need to document any identifying information when working with students. If a student requests telephone follow up, jot down their name and contact information but then shred it when you are done. PLEASE document the support you provide through Qualtrics. (Thanks, Lisa!) Need to remove your name from the list of volunteers or know someone that would like to volunteer? No problem. Just send an email to demunter@ohsu.edu and we ll take care of it. 10
SNAP Support Team Follow Up We will host follow up meetings every 4 to 6 months based on need. You ll receive important SNAP updates via email when needed. Check in with other volunteers and support each other! Feel free to send questions or provide feedback to demunter@ohsu.edu. 11
