CONSENT IN AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY OF LOTS OF ALCOHOL, NEW PEOPLE AND EVEN DRUGS MEANS THAT IT IS FAR MORE NUANCED THAN A DICTIONARY DEFINITION OF THE WORD ITSELF
Condoms free from college, collect from the box near pidge or alternatively you can buy them from farawaysburys. Generally something good to have in your room, even if you don t plan on having sex! Relying on the morning after pill is a dangerous game when it comes to some incurable stds e.g. genital herpes We have non-latex condoms as well as different sizes
DENTAL DAMS, PREP AND PREGNANCY TESTS We have dental dams also available from the JCR and, if necessary, you can make one out of a condom by cutting it in half You can access prep by contacting your local GP or IcaSH (the sexual health service) Pregnancy tests can be accessed using the anonymous JCR form these will be delivered to your pidge free of charge Lube is also available free of charge from the JCR
Getting the pill, injection or an IUD - you can buy the progesterone-only pill from Boots over the counter, but you can also get it prescribed make an appointment with your GP or ring the sexual health service IcaSH - For the injection or IUD you will have to go through the sexual health service - They don t do the patch in Cambridge but there are plenty of other options and if you call IcaSH to arrange an appointment they will talk these through with you
Getting the morning after pill generally at the pharmacies in Cambridge you do have to pay for the morning after pill; it can be bought from both Superdrug and Boots. Its not always in stock but if its not in stock in one, it will be in stock in another.
Getting tested regularly you can order a free kit to your Pidge from IcaSH which will test for chlamydia and gonorrhoea using a swab, but you can get more extensive ones posted. There s nothing embarrassing about getting tested it comes in a plain box (so the porters will never know) and its good practice if you have multiple partners
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF STDS an unusual discharge from the vagina, penis or anus pain when peeing lumps or skin growths around the genitals or bottom (anus) a rash unusual vaginal bleeding itchy genitals or anus blisters and sores around your genitals or anus warts around your genitals or anus warts in your mouth or throat, but this is very rare If a std test comes back clear, you may be allergic to latex
If you have symptoms you can book an appointment with IcaSH for a more extensive test, or your GP can also do a similar thing This is really important as regardless of stigma, STDs can cause permanent damage
