Teaching Notes Teaching Notes Today your child is learning to sequence a story and write a sentence to retell each part. You can help by Looking together at the pictures from the story and helping to put them in the right order. Supporting your child to use the pictures to then retell the story in their own words. Helping them to create their own sentence for each part of the story using the sentence starters and steps as a support.
Sequencing Challenge! Can you sequence the story to show the order in which things happened? ? Take a look at the next slide to see to correct order revealed!
Sequencing Challenge! Here is the correct order. Now see if you can retell the story in your own words using the pictures and sentence starters to help you. Next Eventually First After a while Moments later Then Suddenly Finally Once you ve practised retelling the main parts orally, the next challenge will be to write a sentence for each part.
How to create a sentence Remember to think about your sentence before you write it following the steps below to help you. When did this happen? Who is doing something? What are they doing? It is also important to reread your sentence to check that it makes sense. when, who, what.. look check say write First the boy opens his door and finds a penguin there.

How will I check my childs progress today? Was your child able to create a sentence to retell each part of the story? Here are some examples of possible sentences. After a while the boy finds out that penguins come from the South Pole. Eventually they get to the South Pole and the boy says goodbye. Suddenly the boy thinks he has made a big mistake and turns the boat around. Finally they go home. Then the boy gives the penguin a big hug. Moments later the boy sees the penguin in the water.
