Today your child is learning to…
sequence a story and write a sentence to retell each part.
You can help by…
Looking together at the pictures from the story and
helping to put them in the right order.
  Supporting your child to use the pictures to then retell
the story in their own words.
Helping them to create their own sentence for each part
of the story using the sentence starters and steps as a
support.

Here is the correct order.  Now see if you can retell the story in your own words using
the pictures and sentence starters
 
to help you.

Once you’ve practised retelling the main parts orally, the next challenge
will be to write a sentence for each part.

story? Here are some examples of possible sentences.
After a while 
the boy finds out
that penguins come from the
South Pole.

South Pole and the boy says
goodbye.
Suddenly 
the boy thinks he
has made a big mistake and
turns the boat around.
Moments later 
the boy
sees the penguin in the
water.
Then 
the boy gives the
penguin a big hug.
Finally 
they go home.

Today, your child is learning to sequence a story by arranging pictures in order and retelling in their own words. Encourage them to create sentences for each part using provided starters. Practice creating sentences by following the steps outlined. Take part in a sequencing challenge to enhance storytelling skills. Check progress by assessing their ability to create sentences.
